Relay For Life 2011

Each year, Maintenance Connection sponsors and participates in a local Relay For Life event near Sacramento, California. The 24-hour event is a fundraiser for American Cancer Society representing that cancer never sleeps.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life unites communities across the country each year to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back to find a cure. Teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. By participating, you honor cancer survivors, pay tribute to the lives we’ve lost to the disease, and raise money to help fight cancer in your community.

Relay began in 1985 when Dr. Gordy Klatt, a colorectal surgeon in Tacoma, Washington, ran and walked around a track for 24 hours to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Since then, Relay has grown from a single man’s passion to fight cancer into the world’s largest movement to end the disease.

The 2011 event took place over the weekend of September 10-11, and was well attended by the local community. Over $35,000 was raised for the American Cancer Society through the efforts of the event’s teams. Maintenance Connection and several of it’s staff was proud to participate and help out with this important cause.
